I come from the city of Plzeň, which, with a population of 180,000, is the fourth-largest city in the Czech Republic. It is located in the western part of the country, approximately 100 km from the German border, and is world-famous for Pilsner Urquell beer.
I am a qualified educator by training; however, since 2000, I have held various positions at several cultural organizations in the city of Plzeň. Starting in 2010, I was part of the team behind Plzeň’s bid for the European Capital of Culture (ECoC) title, which the city secured for 2015. During the preparation phase, I was responsible for the revitalization of the former Světovar brewery brownfield, which was intended to be one of the city’s key investments for the ECoC project. However, the planned reconstruction did not go ahead, and the ECoC project was instead allocated the use of a former public transport depot. Following a brief renovation, a significant portion of the 2015 program took place there, and the site remains in use to this day. I oversaw the facility’s launch as its operations manager; after a break for maternity leave, I returned, and I am now in my third year as the director of the DEPO2015 organization.
